Carl Shafer, wife Missy and kids Garrett and Hanna seem to make a very good team. As a team, they’ve shown outstanding stewardship and a dedication to making their operation on W. Versailles Road outside Covington an exceptional one. So far, they’ve implemented practices like crop rotation, waterways and preparing for no-till and have entered into the EQIP Program.

This beautiful, rolling 75 acre parcel of land attached to the Shafer name for at least three generations has seen some changes over the years, and it’s because of the family’s dedication to good stewardship and willingness to add new elements to their operation that has led the Miami SWCD Board of Supervisors to name them 2021 Cooperators of the Year.
