American Hazelnut (Corylus Americana) is a medium to large shrub that is very adaptive and thrives in many conditions. It does occur naturally in thickets and pastures. Foliage turns a bright yellow to deep red in the fall. The Hazelnut supports over 130 species of butterflies and moth caterpillars and pro-vides food for many species of birds and mammals. The nuts are edible and can be roasted or ground into flour. Wind-pollinated, it’s recommended to plant 3-5 shrubs for optimal nut production. May be used as a windbreak.

Butterfly Weed (Asclepias Tuberosa) is a species of milkweed native to eastern North America. It is commonly known as butterfly weed because of the butterflies that are attracted to the plant by its color and its copious production of nectar. It is also the larval food plant of the queen and monarch butterflies. Hummingbirds, bees and other insects are also attracted. It is a perennial plant growing to 1 –3 ft tall, with clustered orange or yellow flowers from early summer to early autumn.
