River Clean Up with Miami SWCD
Canoe floats are a great opportunity to learn about our rivers, and come together with your friends, families, and community to accomplish something vital and worthy by removing trash and restoring the health of our rivers.
Great Miami River
Clean Sweep of the Great Miami River
Since 2005, Miami SWCD has been one of the lead coordinators for this large, yearly effort that has inspired thousands of volunteers to help remove hundreds of tons of trash from the Great Miami River Watershed. Provided with gloves, trash bags, grabbers and a safety talk, volunteers may canoe or walk along designated sections and collect trash that has found its way to the river and are thanked for their efforts with a t-shirt and lunch at the end of the day. The Northern Section effort (Indian Lake to Miamisburg) usually takes place the third Friday of July and the Southern Section (Miamisburg to the Ohio River) usually takes place on the third Saturday in September. A website relaying more information and photos can be found at www.cleansweepofthegreatmiamiriver.org.
